Paul Cobb

This diary was first typed in the 1920’s from his war time diaries and while fresh in his mind, Hall provides vivid descriptions of daily life, relationships among the men, technical aspects of the battery, going into action and the passage to victory in 1918. The author has verified names of people and places as well as dates and set each chapter in the historical context of the war on the Western Front.

Paul Cobb has had a long-standing interest in the Great War 1914-18 strengthened at an early age by his first visit to the battlefields of France and Flanders in 1969. His grandfathers - Dorsetshire Regiment and The Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment) – served in the conflict in Egypt, Italy, Ireland and on the Western Front; a great-grandfather was killed serving with the 55th Kite Balloon Section, Royal Flying Corps. Paul has been a member of The Western Front Association since 1984 (and a former Membership Secretary and later Vice Chairman of the WFA and is chairman of the Wiltshire branch of the association) and of the Gallipoli Association since 1988.
